Instrument Calibration Technician Must be age 55 or older

The Senior Environmental Employment Program offers a unique opportunity for individuals age 55 and over to apply for positions at the US Environmental Protection Agency through a grant sponsored by the National Older Worker Career Center. No fees are involved. Benefits include vacation, sick, holiday leave pay and health insurance.

HOURLY WAGE: $9.56
HOURS / WEEK: 40

QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of two years experience in calibration/repair of radiation survey instruments or degree in health physics or computer science. Familiar with IBM-compatible computer hardware, Windows, Lotus 123 fax and copier.

DUTIES: Recalibrate radiation survey instruments and maintain records on the frequency of calibrations and the calibration parameters. Also repair radiation survey instruments as necessary.

Perform minor radiation survey instrument repair and calibration. Follow appropriate guidelines and procedures of quality QA goals to ascertain that calibration is performed correctly.

Prepare radiation instruments for shipping (handling, packaging, containerizing, marking, labeling and documentation).

Store radiation instruments to shelves and deployment cases from "receiving".

Maintain instrument database "fields" with current information. Maintains records of calibration frequency and parameters.

Compile instrument file records for calibration and "call letters'.

Track monetary figures for calibration and repair costs.

Maintains an inventory of parts for repair of radiation survey instrument.

OTHER: Requires access to a privately owned vehicle. Requires NRC-approved training "Basic Radiation Worker Training" and calibration procedures training. Medical Monitoring required due to using radiation sources under precisely controlled conditions to expose radiation detectors.
