Actor Alec Baldwin Joins Forces with Tooth Fairy

Alec Baldwin doesn't mind using his celebrity status for a cause. . . any cause.

At 41 the actor has starred in many of Hollywood's top-grossing films including, "The Hunt for Red October", "Ghosts of the Mississippi", and "Beetlejuice". He has now used his star status to promote the Tooth Fairy Project, an effort by the nonprofit Radiation and Public Health Project to collect and analyze the baby teeth of thousands of children in hopes of measuring exposure to radiation and nuclear contamination.

Although the findings of the project are yet to be released, the actor seems proud of his efforts to further their cause. "If putting my name out there will attract more people to come see the presentation, then so be it. I'm happy to be the chum in the water."

And chum he was. . . the event at the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey in Pomona, NJ, drew in a crowd of about 400. Most of the attendees were college students eager for a glimpse of the movie star turned activist.

Baldwin encouraged people to spread the word about the Tooth Fairy Project. "The reason I'm here is that we have a burgeoning movement," he said. "We want to get answers about low-level radiation and exposure to it."

The actor would not speculate about what he hoped the study would find as he moderated the panel discussion.
